Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Minimum Age to Climb?
There is no age limit for climbing! We have had climbers from 11 months to 82 years, and we have held birthday parties for children as young as 5 years old! The only age requirement is for Belaying, and you must be 13 years of age or older in order to belay.
What is a Belayer?
The Belayer is the person on the ground controlling the rope to keep the climber safe. They must learn how to tie the required knots proficiently and be able to control the rope and catch the climber should they fall by using a belay device. Belayers must be 13 years of age or older. RockQuest can supply all the Belayers needed for your group, or you can have group members trained to belay.
Do you provide belayers?
We provide belayers for group events and for our Climbing Club. We are primarily an educational facility. We provide training for participants to belay for each other or parents to belay for there children. The more involvement there is with all participants, the more each person will gain from climbing. The underlying benefits of climbing; trust building, communication, and confidence building are greater the more participation there is. However; we do understand that, in general, everyone is busy and/or may not be able to handle the responsibility of belaying, especially for group events where there is an added amount of supervision needed. That is why we offer our Climbing Club on Fridays and also staff belayers for group events.
